Backstage News On Why Shane McMahon Won The WWE World Cup; Possible Heel Turn Coming?

The Wrestling Observer Radio has provided further details on why SmackDown Live Commissioner, Shane McMahon ended up winning the WWE World Cup.

According to the report, having McMahon win the World Cup tournament at WWE Crown Jewel was always the planned finish and it is all being done for a larger storyline in relation to SmackDown’s impending move to FOX.

Viewership has been declining lately for SmackDown Live and WWE is planning to combat that with a major heel turn for Shane McMahon, which is stated to have begun with his World Cup victory, which could be why Shane was celebrating his win so much on the night.

WWE often goes to a McMahon authority figure for major storylines as it is known to gain fan interest due to it being a tried and tested situation and running that storyline with Shane will allow SmackDown to standout and be fresh after having him be a face for so long.

The current plan for the storyline is that Shane’s victory will start to go to his own head and he will start believing that he is actually the best in the world which should turn the fans against him and will likely see him feud with a major star on his show.
