WWE Superstars Slam Recent Meltzer Comments, Emma Off ROH Tour
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer has been one of the top leading journalists in the wrestling business for decades now, and he has and continues to break some of the biggest news and updates that are developing in the world of wrestling. During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer sat down with Bryan Alvarez to discuss wrestling as usual, but the show took a turn for some listeners after The IIconics were brought up. Meltzer talked about how he has been disappointed by Peyton Royce and Billie Kay’s time on the main WWE roster ever since they were promoted from the NXT brand, but then Meltzer mentioned Royce’s “transformation to look more attractive” before he decided against speaking any further.
Is this normal stuff for a journalist to be talking about? Ever?

When Alvarez then asked Dave to elaborate on what he was referring to in terms of Royce’s looks, Meltzer said “She doesn’t stand out to me; when she was in NXT she did. She was a lot lighter.” Fans have reacted largely negatively to the statement from Dave Meltzer, and Peyton Royce herself even called him out on Twitter recently. Earlier today, Meltzer sent a tweet out to the young Australian wrestler apologizing for his all of his comments about her, but several other members of the WWE roster have publicly sent out messages to Royce supporting her and encouraging other women to look past body shaming. Royce appears on Smackdown as part of The IIconics with her tag team partner Billie Kay.
So what would you have me do Dave… starve myself? ?????? This is how nightmares for young women start. The females in your life must be proud. https://t.co/8MNpZNsR7m

I’d like to apologize to you. You are an exceedingly attractive woman. I do realize the lengths and pressures on women in the entertainment world to maintain unnatural looks at times and am glad you pointed this out. https://t.co/qkgOrpVQOX

Again to everyone, I do want to apologize and I’m glad Peyton Royce sent her tweet because there was a valuable point there that we can all learn from.

Shed light and open discussion on the destructiveness of body shaming on young people…all people. Our kids deserve better from us. #LiftEachOtherUp

There’s a way to genuinely apologize to someone and then there’s a way to pass the buck trying to redirect blame because you got called out. Own up to your words. YOU’RE the one who said them.

This is unacceptable on so many levels. How dare you say that someone is more attractive when they are ‘lighter’. You have no idea how stupid comments like this can affect someone for life.@PeytonRoyceWWE is PERFECT just the way she is. A strong & beautiful WOMAN! https://t.co/1FDakcolpf

Former WWE Superstar Emma (now known as Tenille Dashwood) has been tearing it up on the independent circuit over the past few months and has continued her career in wrestling. Dashwood had been scheduled to be part of Ring of Honor’s upcoming tour in the UK, but unfortunately, it now appears that she has been pulled from the tour. ROH put out a statement online earlier this week informing fans that Dashwood would be unable to wrestle in the United Kingdom and that she would be replaced by Kay Lee Ray. Luckily, the belief is that Dashwood is only dealing with a small medical issue that is not too serious and she should likely be back competing in the ring once again sooner rather than later.
BREAKING: Due to unfortunate medical issues affecting @TenilleDashwood and @ladyCDarcy, @Kay_Lee_Ray will step up with huge opportunities on the #HonorReUnited Tour this week
