Ozzy Osbourne Reveals Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis

LOS ANGELES, CA — The first family of heavy metal took to the airwaves Tuesday morning to acknowledge the rumors about Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne’s health. With his famous wife, Sharon, and his two children at his side, Osbourne revealed on “Good Morning America” his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

It’s been a year since his diagnosis, and a miserable one at that, said the “Crazy Train” singer. He described the surreal experience of playing a New Year’s Eve stadium show at 70, then falling down at his Los Angeles home and requiring surgery the following month. It was then that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, he said.

“Next month, a year … Worst, longest, most painful, miserable year of my life,” Osbourne told Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America.” “It’s been terribly challenging for us all.”

The Osbournes decided to go public about his diagnosis after trying to keep it under wraps amid tabloid rumors.

“I’m no good with secrets,” Osbourne said. “I cannot walk around with it anymore ’cause it’s like I’m running out of excuses, you know?”

After the fall, Osbourne canceled his tour, prompting widespread speculation about his health. The rocker has been famously open about his lifetime of hard living and hard-drug use. However, he spent 2019 focusing on his health, but it was a rocky path that saw him hospitalized in an intensive care unit with pneumonia. There were times when he wasn’t sure if he would make it, he said.

“When I had the fall, it was pitch black,” Osbourne said. “I went to the bathroom and I fell … I remember laying there thinking, ‘Well, you’ve done it now.’ Really calm,” he said. “Sharon got me an ambulance. After that, it was all downhill.”

But the disease is not a “death sentence,” Sharon said. The family, which became famous on the MTV reality show “The Osbournes,” has rallied around him, she said. They’re seeing top specialists around the world and spending time trying to cheer up Ozzy as he adjusts to the disease.

“We have all played a role,” said his daughter, Kelly. “But the only thing I know is: What can I do to make him smile? I know going to the studio makes him happy. That’s what I did. Everything else was him.”
