Bulgari expands in Japan
Bulgari plans to expand its presence in Japan with two flagship openings this year. The Italian jewellery house will open a store in Omotesando in November, and its biggest freestanding store ever in Ginza in December. The store in Omotesando will be first Bulgari store with a café and will sell candy such as chocolates in addition to its assortment of jewellery, watches and leather goods.
Japan represents more than 25 percent of Bulgari’s total sales, which amounted to €1.01 billion last year. Chief executive Francesco Trapani told WWD he believes the increased retail space in locations such as Ginza and Omotesando should “trigger more growthâ€? for the group. “The Japanese market’s economic condition is on the healthier track,â€? he said. “However, the age of the society is advancing, and the luxury market has a bearish tone. The high business growth rate will not continue forever. Yet, when you consider its scale, Japan is the largest and most important market for us.â€?
