Lance Storm Offers a Unique Take on the Historic Connection Between AEW, WCW and Chris Jericho
Lance Storm has offered an extremely unique take on the historic connection between AEW, WCW and Chris Jericho. Storm opined on these topics during the June 5 episode of Figure 4 Daily, where he mentioned that Turner Broadcasting is the link between all three elements.
Turner will present AEW on the TNT Network this fall of course. But Turner previously owned and presented WCW, which folded in 2001. Fans obviously know this, but they may not have realized the Jericho connection until Storm discussed it on the show.
“Chris Jericho was the man that almagamated the WCW Turner Broadcasting Company’s World title in to Vince. I’m assuming and we will know soon enough, that when a new wrestling competition company for WWE starts on Turner Broadcasting, their first World champion, 18 years later, is going to be Chris Jericho. You could almost claim, if you wanted to–from a Turner Broadcasting standpoint–title continuity. Jericho to Jericho.”

Storm conceded that Booker T was the last World champion on Turner, but that when WCW’s title unified with the WWE title, Jericho was the man to win it.
Fans may not have thought about the AEW World Championship along these lines, but Jericho will compete for the new title against Hangman Page at All Out on August 31. It’s obvious that Chris is a top guy in the company and he may very well be the top guy. So if he wins the championship, it will surely not be a shock. Whether or not AEW will ever mention the connection between their World title and the WCW title, is unknown.
