Rey Mysterio Earns WWE Universal Title Match Against Seth Rollins
Rey Mysterio is now next in line for a shot at Seth Rollins and the WWE Universal Championship, after winning an action packed Fatal 5-Way elimination match tonight on Monday Night Raw.
The high-flying sensation Ricochet was the first Superstar eliminated from the bout after taking an early Kinshasa from Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. The King of Strong-Style was next to go though after a Phenomenal Forearm from United States Champion AJ Styles.
Robert Roode immediately took advantage, catching Styles with a Glorious DDT to narrow the field down to the final two. While Roode nearly hit his signature DDT multiple times in the final moments, he ultimately got caught with the 619 and a high-flying frog splash to signal the end.
This will be Mysterio’s first time challenging for a WWE world title since August 2011. The match goes down next week on Monday Night Raw on the go-home show heading into Hell in a Cell, which is also being promoted as the “season premiere” of the flagship show.
