Hardy & Riddle to face Miz & Morrison on WWE SmackDown

A tag team match is set for tonight’s WWE Draft night one edition of SmackDown.

WWE announced today that Jeff Hardy & Matt Riddle will team against The Miz & John Morrison on SmackDown tonight. The match started to be set up when Riddle tweeted that — with the draft coming up and him not sure where he’ll end up — he’d love to team with Hardy before he finds out. Miz & Morrison then responded to Hardy & Riddle and said they’ll defeat Hardy & Riddle tonight.

Candy Cartwright (real name Samantha Tavel) announced yesterday that she’s suing Riddle, WWE, EVOLVE, and Gabe Sapolsky for $10 million per defendant. During the #SpeakingOut movement this June, Cartwright accused Riddle of sexually assaulting her in May 2018. Cartwright’s lawyer claimed that incident was one of “a multitude of sexual assaults committed by Matt Riddle against my client, Candi Cartwright” from 2017 through January 2020.

In a statement regarding the lawsuit yesterday, WWE said they “have not been served with a lawsuit by Ms. Tavel. However, if served, we will vigorously defend ourselves and contest it.” Riddle hasn’t commented on the lawsuit but denied Cartwright’s allegations when they were made.

Three other matches have also been announced for tonight’s SmackDown. Bayley will defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks, Kevin Owens will take on “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, and Big E will face Sheamus in a falls count anywhere match. There will also be an angle where Otis “defends himself in court” as he tries to stop Miz from taking his Money in the Bank briefcase.
