NJPW’s Strong Style Evolved Event is taking place from The Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California. The show features Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi taking on The Young Bucks in the main event. Also, IWGP US Champion Jay defends his IWGP US Title against Hangman Page. Below is the result from tonight’s show:
– Chaos (Rocky Romero, SHO & YOH) def. SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) by pinfall with 3K from Roppongi 3K on Sky.
– David Finlay & Juice Robinson def. Chaos (Gedo & Hirooki Goto) by pinfall with a Stunner from Finlay on Gedo.
– Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer) def. Chaos (Chuckie T & Toru Yano) by pinfall with Killer Bomb on Chuck.
Before the next match, Cody cuts a prematch promo about how there’s not going to be a match because Bullet Club are friends and fine. Tanga Loa offers up a contrary position that they are not going to deny the good people of Long Beach a match tonight and this match will be happening. Cody punches him in the face and we’re off.
– Bullet Club (Cody & Marty Scurll) def. Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa) by pinfall with Cross Rhodes from Cody on Loa.
– Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito) def. Dragon Lee, Hiroshi Tanahashi, KUSHIDA & Ryusuke Taguchi by pinfall with Destino from Naito on Taguchi.
Before the next match, Rey Mysterio, Jr. comes out and addresses the crowd. He says that he wanted to apologize face to face and unfortunately accidents happen and he suffered a torn bicep in his left arm two weeks ago that made him call his match off. But that doesn’t mean it’s not gonna happen in the future, and he gives us his word that he’ll be back as soon as he’s ready, and he will wrestle for New Japan.
– Will Ospreay def. Jushin Liger by pinfall with the OsCutter. After the match, Ospreay cuts a promo putting Liger over by saying that he would be so proud to wrestle as well as he does at the age of 53 and he thanks him for everything he’s done, past, present, and future. He also talks about how he wanted to carve out his own legacy with the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, and to do that he has to go through legends, and he’s no one’s replacement and he wants Rey in a NJPW ring. But Marty Scurll attacks him from behind. Rey tries to make the save, Marty rips his mask off and puts it on his own head.
– Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki & Zack Sabre Jr.) def. Chaos (Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii) by submission with something wacky from Sabre on Ishii. After the match, Sabre Jr. puts an an octopus hold on Okada to send a message and he and Suzuki brutalize referee Marty Asami for fun after.
Before the next match, New Japan announces that they will be retiring to the US on July 7th for the G1 Special. The show is called San Francisco: Fighting Spirit Unleashed and the show will be taking place at the legendary Cow Palace.
– Jay White (c) def. Hangman Page by pinfall with Blade Runner to retain the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. After the match, David Finlay attacks White out of nowhere with a spear. He says that he is not gonna stop fighting him and he is going to challenge him for the title on April 24 at Korakuen Hall.
– Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega & Kota Ibushi) def. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) by pinfall with Golden Trigger from both Omega & Ibushi on Matt. After the match, Omega checks on Matt. Nick heads back in the ring and talks with Matt as Ibushi and Omega get their hands raised. Omega and Ibushi celebrate a little bit in the ring while Nick watches over Matt. The Young Bucks stares at Omega as he heads out of the ring with Ibushi. Cody gets in the ring and he’s heated. Cody starts yelling at Matt as Nick comes over and he gets shoved to the mat. Cody tosses off his jacket and Omega comes back to the ring to chase Cody off. Cody heads out to the back as the crowd boos him. Omega talks with The Young Bucks and extends a hand to help up Nick, they hug. Omega does the same for Matt who looked a little more hesitant. Matt ends up bouncing out of the ring, then Nick helps him to the back.
Omega gets on the mic and says that sometimes friends have to go to war and sometimes there are causalities. He says that he wishes he was more happy with the situation, but the silver lining is that The Golden Lovers are back and they are here to stay. He tells Cody that he is going to beat him up in the very near future. He says that they will up the ante at their next US show which will be bigger and better. Omega then says that he may have a broken orbital bone and Ibushi has a busted lip. The two shake hands with the crowd as they head out. The show comes to a close.
