George H.W. Bush: Public Visitation, Funeral, Burial Details

COLLEGE STATION, TX — George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States, will be laid to rest Thursday on the grounds of his presidential library at Texas A&M University in College Station. Bush, who served as president from 1989-1992 died Friday at the age of 94.

Bush will be buried in his family plot located behind the Bush Library alongside his wife, Barbara Bush, who died earlier this year and his daughter, Robin, who died in 1953 at the age of 3, according to a press release from Texas A&M. The university is also home to The Bush School of Government and Public Service.

The president’s casket will arrive in College Station on Thursday. Congressional leaders in Washington D.C. announced that Bush will lie in state at the United States Capitol from Monday. Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. to Wednesday. Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said President Trump and first lady Melania Trump will attend Bush’s funeral at National Cathedral in Washington D.C.

The casket will arrive by train on Thursday accompanied by family members and close friends, the university said.

The funeral procession will travel on George Bush Drive towards the library and the public is invited to view the procession. Texas A&M said the interment ceremony will be closed to public viewing.

The entire campus will be closed on the day of the burial.

Monday, Dec. 3

11:30 a.m.: Departure ceremony at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston
3:30 p.m.: Arrival ceremony at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland
4:45 p.m.: Arrival ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, including a short service
7:30 p.m.: The public can begin to pay its respects as Bush lies in state until 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

Tuesday, Dec. 4:

Bush lies in state in the Capitol Rotunda

Wednesday, Dec. 5

A day of mourning is held across the nation, as declared by the president on Saturday.

10 a.m.: Departure ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.

7:45 p.m.: Bush lies in repose at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church until 7 a.m. on Thursday

Thursday, Dec. 6

11 a.m.: Funeral service iat St. Martin’s Episcopal Church

12:15 p.m.: Departure ceremony at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church before Bush’s casket is taken by train to College Station, Texas

4:45 p.m.: Arrival ceremony at Texas A&M University

5:15 p.m.: Bush is buried in a family plot behind the Bush library complex
